In September 2021, NCVC met with Kyndra Simmons from Youth Alive, Inc, to discuss the planning, implementation, and success of her organization’s prevention and intervention strategies. NCVC also discussed the possibility of some peer-to-peer support for The Western District of Washington. NCVC will support this engagement in 2022.

NCVC hosted 40 attendees for a webinar focused on procedural justice and trauma-informed investigations. Procedural Justice is a strategy used by people in positions of authority to increase legitimacy by focusing on building trust. Trauma-Informed Practices are techniques that help a trauma-survivor feel safe so that they can overcome barriers to resilience. During this interactive and engaging presentation, learners will receive coaching to develop and test their personalized interview plan that they can immediately put to use in the real world to improve safety and outcomes.

The Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Team is continuing their new interview series, Meet the SAKI Experts! This series of brief interviews will highlight SAKI TTA’s partners and consultants and their roles on the SAKI project. During each event, a member of the SAKI TTA Team will conduct a virtual interview with the featured subject matter expert.

People with disabilities and Deaf people are more likely to be victims of domestic violence and sexual assault than people without disabilities. For example, Deaf women are 3.66 times more likely than hearing women report experiences of unwanted sex by an intimate partner and 49% of people with intellectual disability will experience 10 or more sexually abusive incidents in their lifetimes.
