This session “drills down” into programs operated by the Tucson, Arizona Police Department’s Mental Health Support Team, including Drug Deflection, Co-responder, Peer Navigator, Crisis Intervention Training, and more. Participants will leave this session with a roadmap for starting any of all of these programs in their home jurisdiction. A historical perspective will educate attendees in the methods used to start these programs in Tucson, Arizona.

Whether implementing a regional or agencywide preventive crime gun strategy, the establishment of formal policies is a critical factor that must be addressed. These policies can be wide-ranging in scope, affecting entire local, regional, or national populations, and they can be narrow in scope, affecting only a single organization. For example, at least three states now have laws mandating that all police agencies in the state utilize the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN) when investigating firearm-related crimes.

Sergeant James Williams with the Metropolitan Nashville, Tennessee Police Department will discuss how his agency used data to develop targeted traffic intervention strategies to reduce car crashes and their associated harms in a metropolitan area, implementing a High Visibility Enforcement campaign. Captain Ken Clary, Iowa State Patrol, will outline an evidence-based, proactive strategy being tested in a rural area to deter and prevent fatal crashes.

This webinar provided details and guidance to potential applicants on the fiscal year 2019 Project Safe Neighborhoods Block Grant Program. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) VALOR Initiative is hosting the “Off the Cuff: Officer Safety and Wellness Talks” event on August 8, 2019 in Santa Barbara, California. Over the course of four hours, five law enforcement officers will share their compelling personal stories and insights on:

The Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Center for Task Force Training (CenTF) Program offers the classroom-based “Task Force Commanders Training” through a two-day onsite training. This training covers a variety of topics designed to assist task force commanders and other law enforcement leaders in making appropriate decisions regarding task force administration and operations planning and management.
