This presentation will look at how individuals make money through “big business” in relation to the dark web. The presenter will also look at how encryption is deployed throughout the internet, how it will likely be used in the future, and how it will affect criminal investigators throughout the world. Specifically, the presenter will look at the wide-scale use of end-to-end encryption and the potential commercial adoption of anonymizing networks like The Onion Router (Tor).

Every year, thousands of people die from drug overdose. According to data collected from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s National Vital Statistics System, there were over 67,000 drug overdose deaths in the United States in 2018. Part of combatting this issue involves studying the factors that go into opioid-related deaths.

Advocacy for survivors of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) requires an understanding of the dynamics and tactics of IPV. This understanding is also necessary for advocacy for social change to end domestic violence. This webinar will provide an overview of the root causes of domestic violence in Indigenous communities. It will also explain the dynamics and tactics of IPV from a survivor’s perspective.

Due to the complexity of prosecuting sexual violence, a startlingly low number of cases ever make it to court let alone result in conviction. This disappointing reality can be self-perpetuating—victims do not bring charges, and law enforcement and prosecution do not pursue cases, especially if they do not seem winnable.

In August 2020, the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) released the report “How Local Police Can Combat the Global Problem of Human Trafficking: Collaboration, Training, Support for Victims, and Technology Are Keys to Success.” The report was developed from PERF’s Critical Issues in Policing conference held on August 5, 2019, where approximately 200 individuals from backgrounds in anti-trafficking participated in dynamic discussions on the issue.
