LISC lead a breakout session on reducing school violence through partnership during 2023's STOP annual conference. Addressing community violence inside and outside of schools requires a unified approach, which leverages the experience and expertise of community partners as well as school staff and administrators. During this breakout session, participants will be exposed to two organizations partnering with schools to implement the safe passages model and the Richmond, VA, League for Safer Streets Initiative.

Maui Police Department personnel faced the challenge of processing the fires that burned Lahaina. An in-person meeting was held in Maui with the command staff and Maui PD employees from several different departments were interviewed. We expect to continue working with the Maui Police Department with agency wide training and technical assistance to assist in their wellness program development and culture.

ATJRC, in partnership with BJA, will plan and deliver an Alaska Tribal Justice Conference. This event will feature a series of roundtables to discuss how inter-governmental cooperation between tribal and state justice systems (courts and law enforcement) can be
increased.

During the month of December 2023 JSS engaged in the following activities as part of its start-up for the overall project: 1) The Executive Project Director selected JSS staff to work on the project; 2) JSS met with the BJA Policy Advisor and Program Manager to discuss elements of the BJA Small and Rural Violent Crime Program; 3) JSS staff attended the BJA webinar for grantees; and 4) JSS staff retrieved information about the 37 grantees from the BJA website.

In October 2023, the Lab supported representatives from six consent decree agencies to attend the 5th Annual Consent Decree Conference in Fort Worth, Texas.

Seven members of the Minneapolis Police Department attended a 2-day site visit to the Albuquerque Police Department from July 24-25, 2023. During the visit, Minneapolis learned about consent decree management, internal affairs, auditing, officer wellness, community engagement, use of force review, and training.

Six members of the Minneapolis Police Department attended a 3-day site visit to the Baltimore Police Department from June 20-22, 2023. During the visit, Minneapolis learned about training, auditing procedures, consent decree management, use of force review, community engagement, technology, and much more.

The Knowledge Lab participated in a panel at the BJA Violent Crime Reduction Panel on December 11, 2023. The session began with a presentation from the Northern District of Georgia about their Violent Repeat Offender (VRO) program, which was developed a decade ago. The presentation was followed by a moderated discussion about implementing focused deterrence models to ensure the integration of constitutional policing practices.
