SCI Greene is a maximum-security prison with a population of 1,683 males. SCI Greene is part of the state DOC’s pioneering MAT program offering oral and injectable buprenorphine (Sublocade). Clinical staff has found transitioning individuals from oral Suboxone to monthly injectable Sublocade effective for both medical and security staff, cost management, with limited adverse and many positive effects for MAT participants. Facility staff and its contracted MAT/medical team will demonstrate how the program is administered and continuity of care for those reentering the community on Sublocade is managed.
SCI Greene also will also provide training on its robust Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) program that trains peers, enabling them to provide individual and group support services throughout the facility. These peers will be released with certification making them eligible for third party payments providing continued peer services in the community. SCI Greene’s program is part of a DOC program that has graduated over 2,000 CPSs over the past 8 years across the state.
The 1 and ½ day training will include direct observation of the facility’s MAT and CPS programs as well as presentations from SCI Greene and state DOC administrators, program directors, counselors, medical and security personnel and program participants. Staff will describe how the programs were implemented and how training informed and changed attitudes allowing for the program’s success. Training attendees will receive a tour of the facility, and there will be plenty of time for questions and answers and discussions with correctional colleagues from SCI Greene and fellow participants from around the country (and perhaps US territories).
