(July-Dec. 2022): TTA request services that include:
o Training relating to the implementation of holistic defense practices.
o Developing program assessment methodology and ideas and practices on
how to collect qualitative and quantitative data.
o Peer-to-peer learning resources.
o Connecting stakeholders with subject matter experts.
In addition to connecting Marion County stakeholders with comprehensive training resources, we hope to provide support in partnership with Partners for Justice (PFJ), an organization that has aided 20 public defense offices across the country implement holistic defense practices. PFJ can serve as a thought partner with Marion County Reentry Coalition beyond the duration of our assistance as they typically provide multi-year support to system actors.
Held monthly meetings and have submitted a request for in-person training for March 2023.
January - June 2023: Hosted a training March 22-24 in Indianapolis Indiana. The agenda was as follows:
Welcome, Kickoff & IDS Overview (9:00 - 10:00 am)
Overview: In this session, we will welcome all participants to the Interdisciplinary Defense System (IDS) team training. Participants will also be provided an overview of the IDS process of client service delivery.
Holistic Defense Landscape (10:00 - 11:00 am)
Overview: Participants will receive an overview of collaborative and holistic defense, particularly in a post-sentence environment. Participants will learn the principles and elements of holistic practice and learn about different service delivery models.
Break (11:00 - 11:15 am)
Scope of Services (11:15 - 12:30 pm)
Overview: Critical to the cohesion of the IDS team is a robust understanding of the breadth of services offered by each partner. Participants will be provided an overview of the services offered by each IDS partner agency. This will ensure that all team members know what services they can and should provide, when to refer and when to collaborate. This session will be split into two parts.

Visioning Workshop (1:30 - 4:00 pm)
Overview: Participants will engage in a facilitated workshop to develop a shared vision and set of values for the IDS team.

Introduction to Criminal Legal System and Holistic Practice (9:00 - 11:00 am)
Overview: This session will be split into two parts. This session will focus on providing an overview of the criminal legal system, with an emphasis on post-sentencing context. We will then share foundational principles necessary for IDS team members to practice holistically and discuss issues around ethics and client confidentiality.
IDS Collaboration to Maximize Client Impact I (11:00 am - 12:00 pm)
Overview: This session will focus on how IDS team members can root their service delivery in client-centered and client-led ways to increase impact. Participants will learn the principles of client-led practice and how to collaborate to ensure clients receive seamless access to services.
Lunch (12:30 - 1:30 pm)
IDS Team-Building (2:00 - 4:00 pm)
Overview: Participants will learn and engage in team-building activities to foster collaboration and cohesion. They will then develop tools on working together as a cohesive IDS team including communication strategies and conflict management.
July-Dec. 2023: Monthly meetings still being conducted. A webinar is anticipated to come in July on how to incorporate the holistic defense model into practice.
January-June 2024: one pager and webinar will be completed August 2024.
