In-depth TTA. Working with the Victim-Witness Outreach Office of the County Attorney’s Office, this project will focus on identifying barriers for low-income victims and witnesses, especially those in more rural parts of the county to participate in the court system. This will include examining gaps in resources and language related barriers for the region’s refugee population and helping to develop tools and resources to improve access. This project is being led by APA and just launched in January 2023.
July -December 2022: Met with Victim Outreach Office to discuss opportunities for TTA. Application approved December 2022.
January - June 2023: Kick-off meeting held on January 13, 2023. Monthly meetings are ongoing and the site has expressed interest in a virtual training on the cost of system involvement. APA has contacted the Wilder Group to potentially do some mapping related to victim involvement in the court process.
July-Dec. 2023: APA has forged a collaborative partnership with Carver County to delve into crime
mapping initiatives in conjunction with the Wilder Foundation.
January - June 2024: Webinar developed and titled Unveiling Carver County: Exploring Intersectionality through Interactive Mapping

Subject: insightful mapping project designed to shed light on the complex interplay between crime, income levels, and access to resources in Carver County, MN. The primary objective of this project was to provide a comprehensive visual aid that illustrates the spatial distribution of crime, income disparities, and resource accessibility throughout Carver County. By dissecting these layers, Carver County gained critical insights into the geographical concentrations of vulnerable communities, including victims of crime and those at heightened risk. This webinar will walk through why Carver County needed this particular information, the process of how the interactive map was created, and how Carver County currently uses the resource and plans to continue to use it in the future.

           APA prepared speakers, developed and advertised registration, facilitated the webinar, and handled follow up inquires after the program. The recording was also put on APA’s website.
APA’s prosecutor fellow, a former ASA from Cook County, Illinois, is assisting with various projects including the grand jury report. The report has continued to be developed with an estimated completion in early 2025.
