NCSC personel will develop a national survey to state courts asking states to identify the status of diversion programs in the respective states. Follow-up work using these survey responses includes developing a series of court leadership briefs on jail and court diversion programs informed by these interviews. The leadership briefs will articulate guiding principles, essential elements, data requirements and descriptions of existing evidence- based programs across the nation.
July-Dec. 2023: a. The Conference of Chief Justices (CCJ) and Conference of State Court Administrators (COSCA) approved by resolution the strategic plan developed by their joint Behavioral Health Committee to implement the recommendations of the National Judicial Mental Health and Opioid Task Forces. Pursuant to the plan, workgroups composed of both CCJ/COSCA members and outside experts are being formed in the following five areas:
i. Training and Education of Judges, Court Personnel and Justice Partners
ii. Data
iii. Competency Determination
iv. Deflection and Diversion
v. Funding
