Current research on brain and social development states that emerging adults are more like older adolescents than grown adults so this project aims to provide high quality training for legal professionals on the psychology, motivations, and what works best for achieving behavior change with emerging adults.
July-December 2022: NCSC continued development of multimedia training materials on emerging adults in the criminal justice system.
January - June 2023:Bonnie Hoffman presented information on working with Emerging Adults at conferences in both Nebraska and South Dakota during this reporting period.
June - Dec. 2023: TalentLMS site has been updated with training modules. NSCC conducted a training on Oct. 17, 2023.
January - June 2024: Training webinar series completed. This reporting period we recorded and released a 5 part, on-demand learning series on working with Emerging Adults (individuals age 18-26). Each of the 5 modules included 2 short videos, one focusing on substantive content and the other presenting a scenario-based learning activity to enhance real-world application of the materials, as well as a workbook for participants to answer questions and take notes. Topics for the series included
• Young adult brain development
• Needs, risks, and protective factors for young adults
• The behavioral health needs of young adults

The videos are on the project’s LMS system, allowing interested individuals to review the content on-demand.
In February a representative from NCSC, the creators of the e-learning series, was invited to present on both emerging adults and the development of asynchronous learning for adults at the National Association for Court Management conference.
