The NRTAC held an interactive Zoom training to bring together investigators and prosecutors for training and discussion surrounding victim and witness cooperation. The objectives of this training are to:
• Foster collaboration between police, prosecutors and victim advocates
• Learn how to coordinate contact with victims/witnesses and services provided
• Learn how to keep victims/witnesses safe while the case is pending and during trial
• Understand the importance of victims and witnesses in investigations
• Understand why victims and witnesses are uncooperative with law enforcement
• Understand techniques to overcome an uncooperative person in an investigation
• Understand the role of officers/investigators in prosecution for a successful case
• Learn evidence-based prosecution techniques

The subject matter experts (SMEs) will reach out to the CGIC site in advance to identify the potential participants for the training session, as well as key issues and available resources. Ideally the audience will include approximately 10-15 police, prosecutors, and advocates. The attendees will participate in a group discussion with the aid of a case review or hypothetical case. The facilitators will guide the participants through the initial contact with uncooperative victim and/or witness to a violent incident; the investigative process; to final prosecution of a case.
The virtual training will be targeted to individual CGIC sites. Lessons learned from the initial virtual delivery will be incorporated into future requests for training.
