The Corpus Cristi Police Dept. (CCPD) requested training and technical assistance (TTA) to assist in the prevention and reduction of crime through a combination of crime analysis, improved information sharing, and community involvement. It sought improved crime analysis capabilities in order to allow for a more effective use of law enforcement personnel and resources. In spring 2015, Ms. Julie Wartell worked with CCPD to assess the current crime analysis functions and capabilities, meet with various stakeholders to learn about the needs and resources available, and make recommendations regarding data, tools, and training to help CCPD be more proactive and effective in preventing and reducing crime. Her recommendations report included a section on additional training that was needed for crime analysts to learn techniques for using CrimeStat and ArcGis. To follow up on this recommendation, Mr. Christopher Bruce was engaged to provide a two-day training for CrimeStat spatial analysis tools used in conjunction with ArcGis. This course, held in November 2014, trained analysts in the techniques used to identify, analyze, and solve crime patterns and series.
