Specifically, APD is requesting Blue Courage training. After ten solid years of exemplary executive police management, APD has reached a fork in the road where we are facing a "socialization" hurdle. Understanding that our Field Training Officers (FTO's) and Patrol Sergeants are some of the most influential individuals in any police organization, we also realize that many of our key FTO's and Patrol Sergeants have moved into Specialty Assignments, leaving the socialization of our new officers in the hands of some who have not made a conscious decision to be "purpose and people focused." Additionally, we believe that the maturity - mental and emotional - levels of some of our employees is adding to the challenge for them to select the right "path" - doing the right thing, at the right time, for the right reason/s.

How do you anticipate that the requested assistance will address the problems?
The Arizona Law Enforcement Academy (ALEA) will be incorporating Blue Courage into their lesson plans beginning November 2013. APD will have four (4) police recruits in that class receiving that instruction and we do not want it to end there. APD would like to be a host agency, encouraging other Valley law enforcement agencies to attend the Blue Courage training. We know that we are not the only Valley agency experiencing this problem and our intent is to specifically invite all FTO's and Sergeants to the training. Additionally, a program is only as good as the support it gets from the top so Command / Executive Staff would also be encouraged to attend so that the have a working knowledge of the program. With the training being provided to our new recruits at ALEA, it would be beneficial for our FTO's to be able to speak the same language upon the recruits graduating.

Pam Cammarata and Becky Rose have approved one two day course of Blue Courage training for 30 participants. Training is scheduled for November 19-19 2013 and SOW has been issued. Training is completed and e-mail was sent to provider reminding him that final report would be due on January 6th 2014.
