Questions?

Submitted by Joselle Shea on

We are requesting assistance with securing Blue Courage training. We are a non-profit agency and facilitate in-service training for (56) agencies, including the City of Flint. The City of Flint Chief of Police asked us to look into this training a few months ago, however, funding the training was not possible. His agency, as well as some of our others, has been decimated by staffing cuts. Additionally, Flint has the highest homicide rate in the nation. They have right around 100,000 population and experienced (67) homicides last year. The agency, which once had nearly (400) sworn officers now has approx. (120). The stressors in law enforcement under normal circumstances are substantial, however, in these times of unprecedented violence & staffing cuts they are magnified to the point where officers question their role and own sustainability. The resulting issues are that the officers can easily fall prey to a negative subculture and loose track of their role in society. Most of our agencies personnel are in need of role & personal revitalization. I hope to secure (2) Blue Courage session for our membership.

How do you anticipate that the requested assistance will address the problems?
The Blue Courage training goes above & beyond traditional stress training. It takes into account the "whole person" and reprograms the individual to positively interpret themselves and redefine themselves. As a result, they return to their agencies with a new mindset and vision. They are then able to impact the others within the organization so that their vision is identifiable and shared.

Not unlike some other law enforcement agencies, the Flint Police Department has been decimated by the loss of personnel. Additionally, they have one of the most violent crime rates in the country. Last year, once again, they led the nation in the rate of homicides (67 with just over 100,000 residents).
