NACDL assembled an advisory committee of lawyers from across the country with expertise addressing wrongful convictions and litigating innocence cases, and began planning the wrongful conviction defense lawyer training. NACDL, in consultation with the advisory committee, recruited expert faculty to provide the most up-to-date instruction on topics essential for reinvestigating and litigating post-conviction innocence claims. The agenda was finalized and included targeted sessions focused on: digital investigation plus social media investigation tactics and ethics; investigating witnesses; recanting witnesses – specifically addressing cases with recanting experts in addition to informants and other witnesses; investigating and litigating ineffective assistance of counsel; time and manner of death, and working with medical examiners; and using experts in post-conviction hearings.
