The LVMPD’s Technical and Analytical Section hosted a peer exchange, attended by 17 people from 11 different PSP sites, highlighting its small unmanned aerial system (s/UAS) program. Sergeant Brandon Borden and Detective Steve Oscar led the exchange for the LVMPD and covered the evolution of the department’s program from its inception to the current state and the projection of where it will be in 1 year. The platforms, which include BRINC and Skydio, currently assist in crime scene documentation, overwatch, tactical operations, and large-scale special events.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) hosted a group peer exchange that included 20 attendees from 10 different PSP sites. The exchange consisted of an overview of the Southern Nevada Counter Terrorism Center (SNCTC) and the LVMPD RTCC, as well as a discussion on the vision for the Las Vegas RTCC. An overview of financial models, staffing, and command structure for both the SNCTC and the LVMPD RTCC was provided.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department hosted a group peer exchange for 14 attendees from 7 agencies to learn about its CGIC. The agenda for the exchange included the history of the Indianapolis CGIC; budgeting, staffing, and technology; the crime gun task force; and success stories and demonstrations. The collaboration among lab services, analysts, officers, ATF, and community partners, and the significant state funding support, was emphasized as a key strength in Indianapolis’s strategy for handling crime gun intelligence.

The peer visit to Boston was coordinated by Mr. Isaac Yablo, who is the violence prevention coordinator for the Boston Mayor’s Office. Participants learned about the history of the “Boston Miracle” and how the community came together to impact violent crime. The 22 peer exchange participants from 9 agencies heard from Boston Police Department senior command and line-level officers in addition to the Boys and Girls Club, religious partners, and violence interrupters. Key presenters included Director Kevan Barton and Ms.

• Supported access to the IIR OFR Data System on the REDCap server for four new OFR sites.

• Hosted next-of-kin interview training for 57 professionals (June 2024).

• Hosted an in-person one-day post-conference Facilitation Skills Training for 27 OFR facilitators in Atlanta, Georgia (March 2024).

• Hosted virtual half-day Facilitation Skills training for 15 OFR facilitators (May 2024).

• Hosted state infrastructure planning calls with eight states (January – July 2024).

IIR received approval from BJA program staff to host two in-person Safer Schools Roundtables (previously referred to as Safe Place Roundtables), one with school staff and administrators and another with subject-matter researchers. The overall goal of these Roundtables is to gather essential input toward the development of resources that promote collaboration with law enforcement SRO programs to improve school safety while avoiding unnecessary student contact with the criminal justice system.

Over the course of the reporting period, NGA held monthly CJPA calls on topics including problem-solving and specialty courts, considerations for women in correctional settings, homelessness, human trafficking, and crime trends. Additionally, they conducted TTA with CJPAs on the topics of state disaster relief funds, gun violence prevention offices, police demographics, firearm trafficking, first responders and ptsd, and strategies to address local crimes.

Representative from the five CTI Demonstration Sites were chosen by their leadership to attend the IACP 2024 Technology Conference in Charlotte, NC. This opportunity was a peer learning experience where the selected individuals were given a curated workshop list based on topics addressed in their agency's Community Trust Initiative application, subsequent monthly check-ins, and quarterly all-sites calls.
