In recent years, law enforcement use of automated license plate readers (ALPRs or LPRs) has been the subject of much scrutiny by uninformed communities and legislatures across the nation. Many have a misconception that LPRs are used to continuously track individuals in real time. The fact remains that LPR data is largely anonymous in nature but, when properly analyzed, can help law enforcement agencies solve crimes, recover abducted children, detect trafficking rings, and support terrorism investigations.
