Throughout the period of January through March 2021, this project received and addressed, via email and phone communication, requests for information on anti-human trafficking training, technical assistance, and resources. The project staff tracked, addressed, and has kept record of all requests addressed through funding from award 2017-VT-BX-K101.

Join the Office for Victims of Crime, Human Trafficking Capacity Building Center for their upcoming Ask an Expert series webinar “Human Trafficking Data: Using Local Data to Better Understand Trafficking in Your Community” on March 31, 2020 at 3:00–4:00 p.m. ET. This webinar will feature three panelists who will discuss topics related to data collection and application to better understand human trafficking in a specific community and answer participants’ questions. Marie Israelite, director of victim services at the Human Trafficking Institute, will moderate the discussion.

Join Justice Clearinghouse and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) for their webinar “Local Strategies to Combat the Global Problem of Human Trafficking” on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 3:00–4:15 p.m. ET. Presenters will discuss the findings in PERF’s recently published report that examines ways in which law enforcement in partnership with other agencies can respond to human trafficking. Presenters will also highlight methods other jurisdictions have adopted to address the issue.

Webinar on January 7, 2020 from 2-3:30pm, presented by AEquitas, titled "Building Human Trafficking Cases with Traumatized Victims." This webinar will provide police, prosecutors, and allied professionals with strategies for supporting traumatized victims during the investigation and prosecution of human trafficking cases. The presenter will discuss interview techniques as well as approaches to effectively address fears and barriers that impact a victim’s ability to participate in the criminal justice process.

Webinar on December 21, 2020 from 2-3:15pm, presented by AEquitas, titled "Working with Experts to Combat Common Defenses in Human Trafficking Cases." This presentation will describe dynamics and issues that commonly arise in human trafficking cases about which expert testimony can assist the fact finder. The presenter will analyze statutory and case law related to the introduction of expert testimony and highlight the importance of deciding if and when to introduce expert testimony in a case.

Access the Police Executive Research Forum’s Report on Combatting Human Trafficking

In August 2020, the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) released the report “How Local Police Can Combat the Global Problem of Human Trafficking: Collaboration, Training, Support for Victims, and Technology Are Keys to Success.” The report was developed from PERF’s Critical Issues in Policing conference held on August 5, 2019, where approximately 200 individuals from backgrounds in anti-trafficking participated in dynamic discussions on the issue.
