A team of Subject Matter Experts (SMES) interviewed TDCJ's staff wellness program administrators and an additional nine agency staff of their choosing, such as human resource administrators, wellness providers, wellness program administrators, and other related staff. During this visit, the team learned more about staff wellness programming design, implementation practices, available resources, and any gaps that need to be improved.

Corrections staff are exposed, directly and indirectly, to incidents involving violence, injury and death while performing their job. Direct exposure to these events, as well as repetitive indirect exposure, can have cumulative and deleterious effects upon the health and functioning of corrections workers.

In today's workforce, five different generations work together to accomplish shared goals, perhaps for the first time in history. Different behaviors and outlooks among groups of employees born at distinct times requires unique approaches in human resource management. Corrections administrators need to understand that there are nuances and differences among generations, including in perceptions of staff wellness. Generational groups have different sets of experiences, interactions, and events that help shape their identities.
