CHJ received a request from Arkansas Community Correction about telehealth in rural areas receiving substance abuse treatment amid the COVID-19 pandemic. More specifically, they wanted to know how to obtain signatures for the release of information and treatment planning. Currently, their clients are using cell phones for videoconferencing. Additionally, the cost of cell phones and wifi is also a concern for the site's clients. Many program participants don't have the financial capability to support telehealth services.

The Stepping Up initiative encourages counties to track data along Four Key Measures, including connecting people who have serious mental illness (SMI) to treatment and other services after discharge from jail. Communities across the country are looking for information on how to best facilitate connection to care for individuals with SMI. With the current expansion of telehealth, there is a need to discuss best approaches, other ways to connect to care, and to share tips and strategies from counties.
