The North Carolina Governor's Crime Commission and Department of Public Safety were assigned to conduct research on existing programs, protocols, and best practices to address hate crimes in the state. They requested information and resources to tackle hate crimes comprehensively. As a response, NCJA provided them with a detailed list of resources on how to prevent hate crimes and how different providers such as law enforcement, schools, and community members can address them. The guide emphasized the importance of time in prosecuting and handling hate crimes.

The 2023 Police, Treatment, and Community (PTACC) Deflection and Pre-Arrest Diversion Training Summit was held in Denver, Colorado on October 3-6, 2023. Over 400 people attended the summit, including approximately 180 COSSUP grantees from 28 sites. Attendees and presenters included law enforcement officers and other first responders, behavioral health practitioners, community-based service providers, deflection program managers, researchers, and officials from the local, state, and national levels.

In order to advance access to restorative justice education, the NCORJ offers scholarships for the Professional Certificate in Restorative Justice at Vermont Law and Graduate School.

The SPD is seeking vendor assistance to modernizing internal and external Tableau Dashboards. In addition to overhauling the look and feel of these tools to promote engagement, the SPD has recently acquired two new Tableau Servers (internal and external) with additional computing capacity to accommodate advanced functionality such as integration with Python and R. The full resources of the SPD Performance Analytics & Research (PA&R) team and infrastructure would support this engagement.

The coaches conducted an on-site visit to this agency in late April 2023. The on-site visit was intended to assist the agency in its review and revision of its grant strategies so that these strategies can better align with the agency?s PREA grant goals and what needs to be done to prepare for PREA audits.
