RTI will assist the City of Martinsburg with a cost-benefit analysis from the perspective of police and schools. The goal is to demonstrate how much money is being saved by diverting people away from jail. E.g., "For every social worker, we save $X." Katy will look for examples of entities similar to this grantee that are conducting CBAs to see what data they are collecting and what a CBA might look like for the City of Martinsburg.

Jennifer is trying to get schools to use the In Depth model (through American Lung Association) as an alternative to suspension. Under this model, students are out of school for 1 day instead of 5. Katy has worked with some South Bend, Indiana schools on implementing their protocol for alternatives to suspension; she will check in on how it's going for them.

Staff from the City of Martinsburg, including one (Noel Canellas) who is a social worker embedded in the police department, were interested in attending the bi-monthly Diversion Community of Practice meetings. On 8/30/24, Katy passed their email addresses on to the organizers of the Diversion CoP: Alexia Walker and Catherine Grodensky. On 12/3/24, Colleen followed up with Catherine and Alexia to make sure the grantee had been connected to the CoP.
