Evidence-based practices clearly demonstrate that the relationships professionals develop with their client is critical in supporting behavioral change. Creating a relationship that is supportive, empathetic, and accountable and that provides appropriate advocacy is foundational in the change process. Developing effective working relationships requires balancing empathy and boundaries with clear goals and an attention to resolving barriers.

Gain an overview of the comprehensive approach to offender management. Discuss the fundamental principles of this approach including victim centeredness, public education, specialized knowledge and training, monitoring and evaluation, and collaboration. These fundamental principles will provide a guide for how offender management should be directed, what strategies should be implemented, and which stakeholders should be involved in these efforts.

The "COVID-19: Managing the Stress of Uncertainty by Taking Care of You" webinar will help policy makers and all disciplines of correctional staff provide training and technical assistance on effective management of employees and subsequent related stressors that can be caused by pandemic-type occurrences. This live webinar will also be made available on demand on the American Correctional Association's resource center to the public and individuals who were not able to access the live event.

This Community of Practice webinar is one of a series of monthly webinars meant to encourage open dialog among participants. All phone lines/microphones are open to allow participants to ask questions and discuss the topic with each other, with facilitators guiding the conversation. This is funded by award 2016-IC-BX-K002 for the Tribal Justice Systems Planning Project.

Learn how the Maricopa County, Arizona Adult Probation Department successfully expanded its implementation of Thinking for a Change (a cognitive behavioral intervention program with the National Institute of Corrections) through collaboration with external treatment providers who utilized Medicaid to pay for services. This webinar will focus on how they were able to implement evidence-based practices with fidelity, integrity, and continued quality improvement.

For the overwhelming majority of people in federal and state prisons who will eventually reenter the community, finding employment plays a critical role in preventing recidivism. That said, it is not strictly job placement services that can make the difference between reincarceration and successful reentry; ensuring people who are returning to communities from incarceration have the skills to not only find, but also retain, jobs is also key.
