Tribal court judges, often unknowingly, fill multiple
needs within tribal systems. First, they adjudicate
disputes. Second, they are the focal point of attacks, or
preservation of, sovereignty of tribes. The federal
system often in an off-hand manner assaults our tribal
adjudicatory processes as illustrated in U.S. Supreme
Court oral arguments and decisions. Third, we can
function as a tribal mechanism for institutionalizing our
culture, social structures and traditional processes,

State Agency Administrators (SAA) and Governors’ Criminal Justice Policy Advisors (CJPAs) joined together in Charleston, South Carolina on December 14-15, 2017 for the Institute for State Criminal Justice and Public Safety Executives, hosted by NCJA and the National Governor’s Association (NGA). Representatives from 38 states and territories registered for the event which featured a robust agenda of high priority topics, networking opportunities and discussions.

Presented Curriculum materials on Court Teams and Incentives and Sanctions at the Alaskan Mental Health Courts training conference. Curriculum materials adapted for the specific jurisdiction and audience and more information was disseminated about accessing the Curriculum individually.
