PRC staff Stroud appeared in person at the CJJA New Directors and Superintendent's training in San Antonio, TX. Stroud presented a one-hour presentation on Sexual Safety in Confinement: Opportunities for Leadership.
The team discussed the third-party reporting issue that recently arose. The PC reported a solution was identified with the ombudsman. Coach provided a PRC Standards in Focus document.
All grant goals are complete. The team discussed finalizing grant documents in JustGrants. The grantee will send a copy and TMG will complete close-out documents. No further meetings scheduled.
During this reporting period, the investigator was onboarded. The PC and the new investigator completed TMG's juvenile investigator training in May. A new PREA Compliance Manager for one of the facilities is being trained.
The GAM was not completed to move funds to increase Caliente Youth Center's camera system. The team is waiting on the exact dollar amount for the project before proceeding. A contract is pending execution with the selected vendor to enhance the camera system. A Scope of Work was completed for the camera upgrade. A GAM will be completed.
The agency still has not received grant funds. There are significant challenges with the project management office to receive the grant funds to update the camera system. The agency will need to complete a budget modification and obtain new quotes as their current quotes are outdated. The agency is considering opting out of the grant due to not receiving funds. They report receiving requests to submit duplicate information. They report the information has been submitted in previous years.
Grantees reported they received quotes for the camera project at the Southern Mississippi Institution (SMCI). A vendor has not been selected for the camera project at SMCI.
The PREA Coordinator will be attending the 6th National PREA Coordinator's Conference in July.
The PC was on leave for two months and the PREA Analyst provided updates via email. All the grant strategies are complete. The agency is identifying activities that will expend the rest of the grant funds by the grant end date.
During this review period, Administration decided to use actors for a gender responsive PREA video for the female prison Script work has begun. The agency is working in collaboration with a vendor for the video script and to identify actors.
A vendor (CSI-InfoShare) has been chosen for the electronic risk management goal.
The grant manager reported NJ has secured an NCE, extending grant by one year. A budget modification will be requested pending costs for the RMS and PREA video.
During this review period, the multidisciplinary training agenda and schedule were completed, the presenters identified, and hotel bookings provided. The training was completed on June 11-13, 2024, in Geneva, NY.
DOCCS staff and The Loft (vendor) corresponded to cover introductions, program implementation, expectations, questions, and launch date. DOCCS and The LOFT also discussed reimbursement process and other budget related questions. The launch date was May 23, 2024. Assistant Deputy Superintendent for LGBTIQ+ Inclusivity will be on-site to support the programs.
The female curriculum grant strategy is in its final stages. Videos, PowerPoints, and curriculum are being finalized.
There were no new updates to report. All goals remain in their final stages.
There have been no significant changes for the past several months. There are approximately 50 cameras left to install. On-the-job training to operate the new cameras is on-going.
