The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) requested technical assistance in developing and implementing crime prevention and enforcement strategies through collective efficacy in two neighborhoods with significant crime issues. Dr. Craig Uchida of Justice & Security Strategies, Inc. was selected to fulfill the request. Dr. Craig Uchida conducted a site visit to Nashville in August 2017, where he met with local, state, and federal law enforcement stakeholders to understand the crime issues within target neighborhoods, and provided an overview of community collective efficacy and assistance in developing strategies to utilize data to assess success and course corrections, and determine existing resources that could be leveraged and resource investments needed to support crime reduction initiatives. In August 2017 Dr. Uchida delivered a recommendations report to BJA NTTAC and MNPD detailing how MNPD and its partners could develop and implement improved crime reduction strategies in accordance with the community efficacy theory.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (PD) is seeking technical assistance for the development of improved crime reduction strategies. In particular, the PD is looking to implement a combination of prevention and enforcement strategies through collective efficacy in two geographically-distinct neighborhoods with significant crime issues. For many years the PD has employed traditional law enforcement methods in these two neighborhoods, but such methods have largely been ineffective and successes have not been sustained. Leadership is looking to employ new strategies that help to restore public order, improve the quality of life of citizens in these two neighborhoods, and enhance police-community relations.
