The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is holding the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals Annual Conference on March 14-15, 2017 and requested a 3-hour training session on Drug Identification and Recognition during the conference. The audience will include probation officers, law enforcement, judges, therapists, prosecutors and defense attorneys from state, federal and tribal courts. They anticipate that representatives from at least 5 tribal healing-to-wellness courts will be in attendance.
In keeping with a commitment to holding offenders accountable, while providing treatment, the training will help participants remain current with the latest drug trends, learning what drugs are currently on the streets or have not yet reached their community; and what treatment court professionals should be testing clients for.
The Drug Identification and Recognition to Support Justice Systems training was developed to meet the ever-increasing needs for professionals to remain current on the most abused drugs in today’s society. The hands-on instruction will help students develop the skills necessary to recognize the signs and symptoms of persons under the influence of stimulants, hallucinogens, opiates, marijuana, alcohol, depressants, inhalants, and dissociative anesthetics. Instructional areas will include:
• drug abuse and recognition systems
• influence (signs and symptoms)
• drug combinations
• physiology of drug abuse
• drug trends
• investigations (legal considerations)
