Project TEAM will facilitate an on-site meeting of the Northern Cheyenne Tribal Court, the U.S. Attorney's office of Montana, and the U.S. District Court in Billings Montana and related justice stakeholders to design and implement a joint jurisdiction adult wellness court in the community. Project TEAM will facilitate three separate on site meetings, each taking place over two days. The first of these meetings will take place January 26 and January 27, 2017 in Lame Deer, Montana.

Project TEAM staff completed its first on-site planning meeting with representatives from the Northern Cheyenne Court, the Northern Cheyenne Nation, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Montana, and the U.S. District Court in Billings, Montana. Meeting participants also included tribal government leaders, substance use disorder treatment providers, Bureau of Indian Affairs law enforcement personnel, staff from U.S. Probation, and prosecution and defense attorneys. The first meeting resulted in the group mapping the current criminal justice, identifying community resources and treatment options, and identifying a target population for this joint jurisdiction justice initiative.
Project TEAM led the second of four planning meetings for this joint jurisdiction collaborative court. Participants returned for the second in person meeting where the group identified a mission and vision statement for the joint jurisdiction court, further discussed resources available in the community, and began work on drafting a court procedures manual.
Project TEAM led the group in the third of four planning meetings to create a joint jurisdiction justice initiative. This meeting focused on further clarifying the target population, which the group agreed should be Northern Cheyenne tribal members reentering the community after a sentence or being remanded to community supervision. The group confirmed the vision and mission statement, identified measurable goals for the project, further discussed how the court would function, and adopted a court name.
Project TEAM led the group in the fourth of four planning meetings to create a joint jurisdiction justice initiative. This meeting focused on finalizing the draft court procedures manual, identifying tasks for the meeting participants to address following completion of technical assistance, and planning for the court's implementation.
