On November 4-5, in Washington, DC, members of the Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative (Global) Advisory Committee (GAC, Committee) represented their communities at the fall 2015 GAC meeting. With guidance and support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the GAC is a Federal Advisory Committee to the U.S. Attorney General, providing recommendations on promising national policies, practices, and technologies to solve the most pressing business priorities of the field through better justice information sharing (JIS). IIR staff members maintain regular contact with the chair and vice chair of the Global Advisory Committee (GAC), as well as with the Designated Federal Official of Global, to ensure that GAC meetings (held up to two times per year) are adequately prepared for, including arrangement of meeting logistics, development of meeting agendas, follow-up of assignments and action items from previous meetings, notification to membership of meeting logistics and agenda items to be discussed, invitation of presenters and honored guests facilitation of the meetings, documentation of meeting proceedings, and processing of reimbursements. At this year’s event, a special half day session was added on the morning of November 5. GAC members, Global and partner leaders, and selected subject matter experts were invited to engage in collegial, interactive task team sessions to explore priority issues facing the justice and public safety communities. Topics covered were: Improving Law Enforcement Information Sharing; New and Evolving Probation, Parole, and Reentry Priorities, Projects, and Best Practices; Tackling Cybercrimes and Cyberthreats; and Justice System’s Use of Digital Evidence: Body-Worn Cameras and Beyond.
