Reporting Cycle Summary
Lauren explained that their program is a "Lead" model that started in 2020. They are at heart an officer intervention pathway but have crossed into self-referral and officer referral. Their OI pathway is after a police “summons” and if the participant completes the program the summons does not turn into charges and it is not presented to the DA’s office. They have charges that would exclude participation such as sex offenses, domestic violence, and other violent crimes. She did state that certain crimes against a person could be included if the victim agreed to or requested it. She stated that they have a liberal approach to charges that can be diverted, including driving without a license or with a suspended license.
Initially, Lauren was the only behavioral health liaison, but they were able to secure the COSSUP grant and hire a full-time case manager. The program is embedded within the Police Department and focuses on low-level drug possession charges and other specific unmet needs. They seem to be constantly looking for areas where an individual has unmet needs. Lauren offered to share their policy document that outlines the charges they accept and those they do not. Lauren shared that their DA's office is supportive of the program and is considering expanding it county-wide.
Lauren explained the four types of evaluations they conduct on individuals:
· Aces questionnaire: Administered once upon intake to assess adverse childhood experiences.
· Goal sheet: Completed at intake to identify specific areas of focus for the program.
· Self-sufficiency matrix: Conducted every three months to assess progress in eight domains of a person's life.
· Self-progression questionnaire: Assesses the utilization of collaborative supports, such as law enforcement, rescue, and hospitals.
