During this reporting period, the Fulton County PREA Coordinator (PC) updated the website to include enhanced PREA information. The coaches reviewed Fulton County website. The PREA information was easy to find and provides information on reporting, zero-tolerance and investigations. The team discussed in detail the PREA-related portion of the DOJ CRIPA investigation report. The report was released to the public and will be discussed at the November 20, 2024, Board of Commissioners meeting. The report highlighted the efforts made by the newly hired PREA Coordinator and detailed some of the processes implemented. The team discussed the Grady Hospital crisis line and the PREA internal hotline. Since the calls are free, Grady staff reported the inmates are abusing the hotline and calling the hotline excessively and for non-PREA related reasons. The PREA Coordinator discussed the problem with agency/facility leadership and has begun an inmate education program to discourage them from using the hotline for non-PREA purposes. The PC acknowledges addressing this issue will take time and the cooperation of staff to help the inmates understand why the hotline exists. The coaches talked about finding an external reporting agency that would allow the institution to receive reports of sexual abuse. Some suggestions were partnering with a neighboring county or the GA DOC and using a TIPS line. The team discussed Savitre Bettencourt's departure from the coaching project. Jennifer Sheahan will continue to provide coaching support.
