During this reporting period, the camera project at South Mississippi Correctional Institution is approximately 50% complete. Cameras will be added to holding cells. This is an addition to the original project and will require an additional purchase of cameras and a network video recorder (NVR). Cameras were installed at South Mississippi (SMCI). The DVR installation is pending delivery. Wires installation was complete for the infirmary cameras. Data continues to be sent manually to the PC. PTS Solutions (investigations database vendor) may be able to add a PREA "flag" that would more easily identify and compile PREA investigations data. This will assist in monitoring data to determine if there is a reduction in unsubstantiated allegations and an increase in the quality of investigations after the project is complete. Currently, the agency relies on manual reports. A new Director of Correctional Investigations Division was identified and began employment on October 1, 2024. The field-initiated TA request for PREA investigations training was denied and the grantee will use grant funds to provide PREA Specialized Investigations training to staff. Approval was given to hire more PREA Compliance Managers (PCM).
