These calls are an opportunity for grantees to check-in with us at CHJ, meet other grantees, and learn about topics related to deflection and pre-arrest diversion initiatives. Invited are CHJ's open FY19-23 deflection and pre-arrest diversion grantees. After a brief introduction to the CHJ team and our TTA support, we were joined by two presenters, one from fellow COSSUP TTA provider, the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) and another, Captain Kevin Hunter, from the Fort Wayne police department.
The call was facilitated and moderated by Kelly Cleveland, CHJ, and presented by Lauren Savitskas, IIR. The call was a collaborative and interactive session focused on exploring the integration of Deflection and Overdose Fatality Review (OFR) as strategies to address Substance Use Disorder (SUD). The session included discussions on effective strategies, challenges, and lessons learned, emphasizing fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Attendees left with practical examples and actionable ideas to strengthen their work in SUD prevention, intervention, and community response efforts. Additionally, Captain Kevin Hunter from Fort Wayne/Allen
County, IN, was to be a subject matter expert and speak about his experience, but he was unable to attend.
