Quinault Chief Judge Leona Colegrove submitted a General Inquiry Request for vicarious trauma training for her Healing to Wellness court staff. Chief Judge Colegrove specifically requested a training that was more comprehensive than a general "what is vicarious trauma" training. The general plan was to include how vicarious trauma shows up, what court staff can do to alleviate, how staff can support each other, how management/leadership can mitigate the effect on staff, etc.
The National Native Children's Trauma Center (TYRC subcontractor) was recommended as Judge Colegrove's staff serve on both juvenile and adult HWC teams.
Wellness Court Specialist Kristina Pacheco set up an initial meeting to discuss needs as she has recently worked with Quinault. Judge already had a training site, date, and funding for her staff to attend an offsite staff retreat. The dates for the staff retreat were August 18-20, 2024, with the need for vicarious trauma training on August 19th. Judge Colegrove requested team-building activities and indicated that staff would be responsive. With Kristina Pacheco unavailable for this training, Wellness Court Specialist Angie Juárez-Monger, would provide training, inviting Maegan Rides At The Door at NNCTC to partner for this training. A training outline was sent to Judge Colegrove on July 8th.
Maegan was not available during the dates requested by Judge Colegrove but Kara Pasqua from NNCTC will join. A final check in call with Judge Colegrove, Kara, and Angie occurred on August 13th for review agenda and training plan. The training was delivered August 19, 2024.
