In December, CSG Justice Center staff continued working with contractors to develop agency dashboards, starting to use data currently in Publisher to test and validate the functionality of future public-facing dashboards.
Objective 6: Provide intensive TA to 10 states, supporting the adoption and use of the Justice Counts metrics to drive decision-making. (Founding State Work)?
In California, CSG Justice Center staff met with the City of Davis Police Department to conduct onboarding.
In Montana, CSG Justice Center Staff were on site to meet with various agencies and stakeholders to expand work in the state. CSG Justice Center staff met with the Lewis and Clark County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC), the office of a state senator, and the Cunty Attorneys and Sheriff's and Peace Officers Association to discuss ways to collaborate with the Justice Counts program. In a recruitment capacity, staff met with the Montana Office of the State Public Defender (opt-in), the Montana Department of Corrections, the Montana Board of Crime Control, Helena Police Department, the Montana Association of Counties, the Montana Statistical Analysis Center, the Tribal Defenders Office of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CKST), and the Tribal Prosecutors Office of the CKST. Finally, CSG Justice Center staff gave a public comment at the Montana Board of Crime Control, providing an overview of Justice Counts.
In New Mexico, CSG Justice Center staff were on site to recruit new agencies for the program. CSG Justice Center staff met with the New Mexico Legislative Finance Committee, the Administration of District Attorneys, and the New Mexico Police Department to introduce Justice Counts. Additionally, CSG Justice Center staff met with the New Mexico Department of Public Safety to begin collecting statewide law enforcement data, with the New Mexico Sentencing Commission to reengage them with the Justice Counts program, and with the First Judicial District Attorney to coordinate next steps in the opt in process. Finally, CSG Justice Center staff completed a tool for the New Mexico Association of Counties to use in an upcoming presentation to the New Mexico County Commissioners. The development of this resource was completed with funding from both this grant and the FY23 Justice Counts Implementation grant as CSG Justice Center staff prepared to close out this grant.
In Ohio, CSG Justice Center staff met with the Franklin County Office of Justice Policy and Programs to discuss the progress of the Justice Counts project in the county. CSG Justice Center staff also held a recruitment meeting with the Akron Police Department and onboarding meetings with Case Western Reserve University and the Eastern Ohio Corrections Center.
In Vermont, CSG Justice Center staff met with the Vermont Department of Corrections to begin onboarding.
