Virtual Academy Supplemental
In September, CSG Justice Center staff submitted a proposal to BJA for $3 million in additional funding for the Advancing Data in Corrections programs.?The request included 10 new RCA placements and building out the limited engagements and peer-to-peer opportunities for Virtual Academy.
Report and Model Code Repositories?
In September, CSG Justice Center staff met with LYRASIS-DSpace regarding hosting the report repository and the onboarding process for setting up their site as the repository. CSG Justice Center staff continued outreach to all 50 state DOCs for permission to host reports. So far, nine states have said yes. ?
Community Forum and Office Hours?
As of September, 137 corrections professionals from 41 states and Washington, DC were registered for the forum. Some topics posted to the forum in September included key components of a data model of operations, the process for calculating and reporting recidivism, inmate identifiers (public v. non-public), and IT considerations for incorporating open-source tools.
CSG Justice Center staff held office hours on September 3 and September 17. On September 3, seven corrections professionals from Missouri, North Dakota, Washington, and Washington, D.C attended office hours. The discussion focused on how to track technical violations. On September 17, 10 corrections professionals from Kansas, Washington, Idaho, Washington, DC, and South Carolina attended office hours. The discussion focused on defining and tracking recidivism.
We received the following feedback from a participant regarding office hours: "Thanks for holding office hours! I have been able to ask questions to the group and confidently present my findings back to leadership. I think I have been able to provide value back to the agency with an action item after each session that I've attended."
Seminar Series
On September 18, CSG Justice Center staff held the first Seminar Series facilitated by the Washington, D.C. DOC Chief of Strategic Planning and Analysis. The seminar focused on workforce operations and overtime analysis at the DC DOC. Over 170 people registered for the seminar and 110 registrants attended the online seminar.
At the conclusion of the seminar, the CSG Justice Center staff provided access to an online quality survey for attendees to voluntarily complete to provide feedback on the event. Please see the following synopsis of the survey results:
