During this three-day peer exchange, three Aurora Police Department personnel visited the Baltimore Police Department (BPD). The primary focus of this exchange was how to leverage crime analysis and technology to support consent decree compliance.
Day one consisted of multiple meetings with different BPD units to discuss best practices for various topics, such as updating performance standard policies to comply with consent decrees, recruitment, and transparency with their community. On the second day, attendees spent the entire day at the BPD Education and Training Section Academy to learn about BPD’s curriculum development, monitoring team, and DOJ collaboration and certification. The final day allowed attendees to sit in on a CompStat meeting, tour the BPD museum, participate in a meet and greet at the BPD commission’s office, and sit in on BPD’s quarterly compliance review meeting at the federal courthouse.
