On September 19, 2024, members of the SLATT Program team and two SMEs provided another virtual delivery of the DISRUPT training course lesson titled, “Homegrown Violent Extremist–Threat to Law Enforcement, The Jesse Hartnett Ambush Story.” The delivery followed the same format as the September 9, 2024, delivery, and was hosted by the Regional Organized Crime Information Center (ROCIC), RISS Center. Prior to the event, a training flyer was developed and broadly disseminated by SLATT and the ROCIC, and at the conclusion of the virtual event, participants were provided with QR codes to download presentation resources and to provide evaluative feedback.
Approximately 100 participants attended the virtual training event. Of the 39 attendees who provided feedback, 97% found the instructors to be knowledgeable, were satisfied with the course, and found the information useful; 95% found the instructors to be effective, and indicated that the course was relevant to their job and that they plan to apply lessons learned from the training; and 92% stated that their knowledge increased and that they would recommend the course to others. Attendees noted their appreciation for the “real life examples and lessons learned” for law enforcement officers related to the importance of maintaining situational awareness and not becoming complacent. One attendee stated that “the overview of the ambush on Officer Hartnett was incredible,” to include how the events unfolded “from ambush to prosecution.” In addition, several attendees appreciated the reminders to always keep life-saving equipment nearby, with one attendee stating that they planned to “recommend policy change for tourniquet placement on vests.”
