The Los Angeles, California, Police Department (LAPD) hosted four personnel from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Police Department (PPD) on a very aggressive 3-day peer exchange. Day 1 started with opening remarks from LAPD Chief Dominic Choi and his executive staff followed by an overview of the Community Safety and Partnership Bureau headed by Police Administrator Joel Lopez. The PPD then attended a meeting with the Watts Gang Task Force and concluded with a presentation by ZenCity highlighting community assessments and surveys.
On day 2, the PPD attended an LAPD Governance/Board of Police Commissioners meeting in the morning. Due to a last-minute cancellation, the PPD was unable to attend a COMPSTAT meeting. In the afternoon, the PPD met with the Harvard Park Community Safety Advisory Council and then met directly with Deputy Chief Emada Tingirides.
The morning of day 3, the PPD met with the Urban Peace Institute for a presentation and roundtable discussion on strategies to combat gang and gun violence. In the afternoon, the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction and Youth Development hosted the PPD to discuss the framework of the Gang Reduction and Youth Development (GRYD) program.
