Saginaw Chippewa THWC Project Administrator Tracey Klich emailed TLPI requesting assistance on assessment and programming recommendations of free or low-cost criminogenic assessment, life skills program, and trauma program similar to Mending Broken Hearts. The foundation of their program is the Seven Grandfather Teachings and the goal is to immerse the principles throughout the THWC. Wellness Court Specialist Kristina Pacheco suggested Seeking Safety for life skills and trauma curriculums, along with the Change Company for workbooks. Wellness Court Specialist Alyssa Harrold assisted with the risk assessment recommendation as she also has experience with the Seven Grandfather Teachings.
Further assistance was provided in response to a BJA inquiry on program barriers reported by the tribe. Wellness Court Specialist Kristina Pacheco met with Chief Judge Michelle Horn and Case Manager Samantha Pollaski to discuss challenges with their grant and THWC. Resources and TTA were offered to work through these challenges. TTA assistance is expected to continue next reporting period.
