TLPI's Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts TTA project includes the creation of a tribal-specific foundational training curriculum as Objective 4: Develop and provide Foundational Training, with the following associated tasks:
4.1 Design and develop a tribal-specific foundational training curriculum.
4.2 Pilot test a tribal-specific foundational curriculum (with 2 new THWCs).
4.3 Assess and refine the piloted tribal specific foundational training curriculum.
4.4 Deliver tribal specific foundational training to 10 courts seeking to launch a new THWC.
A curriculum was designed and developed during the January - December 2024 reporting periods - Fundamentals Training for Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts. This Fundamentals Training is a tribal specific version of a foundational training for new Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts. The curriculum was completed in September 2024 and was piloted on September 16-17, 2024, prior to the 2024 Implementation and Enhancement Training.
TLPI invited up to three (3) Mentor Court team members from each court to the piloting to provide invaluable subject matter knowledge and expertise in this process. FY23 Adult Treatment Court Category 1 grantees were also invited to satisfy their foundational training requirement (along with individual intensive TTA). In attendance were Mentor Courts Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa, Tulalip, and NM Urban Native American Healing to Wellness Court. Grantees included all three FY23 Category 1 grantees: Kalispel Community, Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma, and Chickasaw Nation.
Evaluations for each module and the overall training were collected. Attendee roundtable and evaluation results, along with staff feedback, were analyzed and are being used to revise this curriculum. It is expected to finalize this newly developed curriculum next reporting period.
