Objective 3: Expand the adoption of the national guidelines for post-conviction risk and need assessment and support implementation in up to six states.
Site visit meeting with MN DOC Center City Field Office (May 16, 2024) - CSG Justice Center staff met with Carter Diers (Field Services Director, MN DOC), Alissa Morine (Corrections Agent, MN DOC) and DeLon Cannon (Corrections Agent, MN DOC) to observe agent and client interactions. CSG Justice Center staff observed several case planning sessions to improve supervision practices. The verbal informed consent script, read before each appointment, explained the observer's role, assured confidentiality, and sought permission from the clients. Appointments observed included ongoing skill practice, initial case planning, new transfer/intake, and engagement sessions. Observers adhered to best practices, remaining silent, maintaining a neutral demeanor, and avoiding documentation of any identifying or personal information. Key interventions and techniques were noted using a Probation Observation Form. Alissa Morine (Corrections Agent, MN DOC) had several appointments throughout the day, while a DeLon Cannon (Corrections Agent, MN DOC) conducted engagement sessions with several clients in a group setting. CSG Justice Center staff provided key feedback to each agent and Carter Diers (Field Services Director, MN DOC) upon completion of each observation.
Site visit meeting with the MN Community Supervision Advisory Committee (CSAC) and MN Phase II Working Group (May 17, 2024) - CSG Justice Center staff attended the MN CSAC Committee Meeting and hosted an in-person combined MN Phase II working group meeting with 13 representatives across all three delivery systems: MN DOC, MACCAC, and MACPO. Additionally, the National Guidelines Project Team provided updates.
