The PREA Resource Center (PRC) piloted the PREA Academy Investigations Training (PAIT) between November 27,
2023, and February 23, 2024, for corrections professionals responsible for conducting administrative sexual abuse and sexual harassment investigations at their facilities. The 11-week online course included both knowledge and skills-based learning approaches. The PRC designed PAIT to train and guide learners as they develop and build the knowledge and skills required to conduct high-quality sexual abuse and sexual harassment investigations in
confinement settings. Upon successful completion of the course requirements, learners received a certificate of course completion. The pilot course covered topics ranging from the dynamics of sexual abuse and sexual
harassment in confinement; investigative methodology; interview techniques; application of standards of proof; the application of certain provisions of standards including but not limited to standards 115.21, 115.321; 115.22, 115.322; 115.31, 115.331; 115.34, 115.334; 115.71, 115.371, 115.72, 117.372; 115.86, 115.386; and other related provisions of the PREA Standards and investigations practices.
Updated the content for 17 modules of the PREA Administrative Investigations Training (PAIT) and developed new application materials to prepare for advertisement, applications and beginning of delivery of the course in the upcoming reporting period.
Worked with partners to develop an outline for a new asynchronous course to orient new and existing PREA coordinators and compliance managers.
Continued work with partner Just Detention International to develop a course to educate qualified agency staff members who will provide support to incarcerated people who have reportedly been victims of sexual abuse.
