CHJ COSSUP Grantee Quarterly Call was scheduled for June 13th from 2:00pm - 3:30pm ET. These calls are an opportunity for grantees to check-in with us at CHJ, meet other grantees, and learn about topics related to deflection and pre-arrest diversion initiatives. Invited are CHJ's FY19-23 deflection and pre-arrest diversion grantees. After a brief introduction to the CHJ team and our TTA support, we were joined by two presenters.
Deflection Strategies to Meet People Where They Are and Reduce Harms Associated With Substance Use Disorders.
At this call, we will be joined by folks from Northampton, Massachusetts to discuss the relationship between public safety and public health partnerships, strategies they utilize to engage people with SUDs, ways to integrate harm reduction into deflection, and building officer buy-in. Melissia Larson, our fellow TTA provider colleague at RTI, will also be joining us to share resources, and also her own experience working with harm reduction and law enforcement in North Carolina.
After this meeting, attendees will better understand:
Initiating and building relations between harm reduction services and public safety
The roles that each can fill when providing services to people with SUD
How harm reduction can lead to crime reduction in the community
Strategies to engage people with SUD and battle stigma
Ways to improve officer buy-in when it comes to harm reduction approaches
