"Ripening States and Projects Monthly Updates: In April, CSG Justice Center staff remained focused on general ripening activities related to planning for follow-up engagements that will build on connections made at the National Summit to Advance States’ Criminal Justice Priorities, which took place in Atlanta, Georgia, from December 5â€"6, 2023. In April, CSG Justice Center staff conducted follow-up outreach to the recipients of the  mailed hard copies of data snapshots that were originally created and distributed at the National Summit to a comprehensive contact list of legislative and gubernatorial leaders in all 50 states. Also in April, the CSG Justice Center team continued providing information to state leaders and stakeholders in West Virginia. The state secured all signatures for a Letter of Interest (LOI) that will be submitted to funders requesting support for launching a JRI project in 2024. CSG Justice Center staff continued engaging with stakeholders to better assess the state and key challenges within their criminal justice system, while also continuing to draft an assessment memo and work on data scoping. JAC States and Projects Monthly Updates: In April, CSG Justice Center staff worked with the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (DAC) to complete a vendor form that requires CSG Justice Center systems to meet an acceptable level of security compliance to transmit data. In addition, CSG Justice Center staff worked with the DAC to revise a data use agreement that outlines the details of the requested data. During the month, CSG Justice Center staff met with DAC staff to finalize the research document that outlines areas of analysis to pinpoint changes in incarceration rates, revocations, and specific criminal justice outcomes following the implementation of North Carolina’s 2011 JRI policies. Further, CSG Justice Center staff continued development of a qualitative document outlining details of the planned focus groups and areas for qualitative analysis. In April, CSG Justice Center staff finalized their efforts to complete the data collection process with the Hawaii Parole Authority, collaborating with the Director of the Criminal Justice Research Institute (CJRI) at the State of Hawaii Judiciary. Hawaii agencies finalized a memorandum of understanding for data collection with CJRI and a confidentiality agreement for the review of Hawaii Paroling Authority case files. These agreements pave the way for CSG Justice Center staff to meticulously analyze data and prepare comprehensive findings. The culmination of these efforts will be presented during the upcoming Hawaii HCR 23 Task Force meeting scheduled for June 6, 2024. Moreover, throughout April, the CSG Justice Center team remained actively engaged with key state stakeholders, seeking to better grasp state-specific needs and explore potential synergies with the objectives of JRI. This ongoing dialogue underscores the commitment to fostering meaningful collaboration and driving positive outcomes in Hawaii’s criminal justice system. Also, CSG Justice Center staff followed up on the mass email blast sent to over 100 of our Justice Counts partners including several criminal justice organizations and associations. The email included the Criminal Justice Data Snapshot and encouraged organizations to share it with their networks. The campaign continued to build and generate interest, as well as further discussions with stakeholders, about engaging with JAC and JRI projects."
