On May 15 and 22, 2024, respectively, a SLATT SME provided in-person Prevent & Respond: Officer Training to Effectively Counter Terrorism (PROTECT) training deliveries to members of the Eugene, Oregon, first responder community. The training events were hosted at the Eugene Police, Fire, and 911 Training Center and consisted of the lesson titled, “The First Responder's View of the San Bernardino, California, Terrorist Attack.” Each presentation included a SLATT Program overview and a comprehensive briefing of the December 2, 2015, terrorist attack at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California. Approximately 130 total participants attended the two training events and were provided with QR codes to access SLATT resources and to provide evaluative feedback. In aggregate, of the attendees who provided feedback, 100% of the students were satisfied with the course and agreed or strongly agreed that the information was useful; nearly 95% agreed or strongly agreed that the information increased their knowledge; 100% agreed or strongly agreed that the course was relevant to their current jobs; and nearly 99% agreed or strongly agreed that they would apply what they had learned and would recommend the course to others. Participants commented that the presentation was “amazing with the tactics, leadership, planning, equipment, and training topics,” and noted that it was all “valuable.” One participant indicated that, “At this point in my career, complacency is a real issue. While I enjoy gaining knowledge, the reminder to be ready mentally, physically, and emotionally is a huge take-away.”
