On May 21, 2024, the Bureau of Justice Assistance senior policy advisor, a SLATT team member, and a SME from the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), completed a PREPARE training delivery to attendees at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP ) Technology Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. The one-hour training session consisted of a SLATT Program overview and a presentation titled, “ Nefarious Uses of Emerging Technologies: Relationship Between Bad Actors and Technology Adoption” presentation, followed by an open discussion. Approximately 120 participants attended the event and were provided with SLATT promotional materials. At the conclusion of the presentation, QR codes were provided to access the joint SLATT/START publication titled, “Implications of Emerging Technologies to Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, and Public Safety Personnel and Organizations: A Primer,” as well as SLATT resources. Participants were also provided with a QR code to provide evaluative feedback. Of the attendees who provided feedback, 82% were satisfied with the course and agreed or strongly agreed that the information was useful, that it increased their knowledge, and that they would recommend the course to others; 91% agreed or strongly agreed that the course was relevant to their current jobs; and 55% agreed or strongly agreed that they would apply what they had learned. Participants commented that the presentation was “great” and that they appreciated the training focused on the “thought process of bad actors” and the data associated with technology readiness levels.
