The RVCRI team will fund RVCRI team members and the Kent, NY Police Department to present at the Small & Rural Law Enforcement Executives Association 2024 Conference.
Presentation Title: Innovative Approaches: Incorporating Technology in Rural Policing Investigations
Presentation Short Description: Join us to discover how rural law enforcement agencies are
overcoming challenges in investigations. Rural agencies often lack the necessary resources to keep
pace with the ever-changing nature of violent criminal activity. This presentation will highlight the
Rural Violent Crime Reduction Initiative (RVCRI), a targeted grant program empowering rural agencies
with essential tools. Gain valuable insights and actionable strategies from the Kent, New York, Police
Department, a recipient of the RVCRI grant, as they share their experience using their regional real-
time crime center (RTCC), supported by various technologies including Automated License Plate
Readers (ALPRs), to address the urgent issues facing rural law enforcement. This includes an instance
where they facilitated a multi-agency response to a series of gun violence incidents throughout New
York City and its surrounding areas. Hear how the Kent, New York Police Department use of its RTCC
has not only enhanced investigations but also contributed to reducing violent crime in their community
and neighboring communities.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
• Replicate the regional strategies implemented by the Kent, New York Police Department.
• Analyze the impact of technology-driven strategies on enhancing investigations and reducing
violent crime in rural communities.
