The RVCRI team will fund two RVCRI grantees, Shawano, WI and Frederick, CO, to present at the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives Association 2024 Conference.
Violent crime continues to be a challenge in many small and rural communities. Community-based resources are often scarce and, when available, only at a significant distance. As a result, law enforcement agencies acting alone may experience challenges to successfully address violent crime in their community. What partnerships and resources are most appropriate to address violent crime? How can a small investment result in big returns for your community? Hear from two rural communities about their efforts to address violent crime challenges by using innovative strategies supported by the development of robust cross-sector partnerships. As a result of this work, the Frederick, CO Police Department has provided services to 236 crime victims from April – December 2023 and Shawano, WI Police Department has strengthened partnerships with numerous agencies, including other law enforcement agencies, multi-jurisdictional task forces, tribal partners, and health services partners. As a result of these efforts, Shawano was able to conduct over 35 narcotics-related investigations and seizures involving fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine, resulting in over 3,200 grams of illicit substances being recovered. In December 2023 because of a multi-jurisdictional interdiction, 71 firearms, 22 suppressors, and 1,350 pounds of ammunition were seized.
