Planning has begun to host a national convening of experts from an array of legal system stakeholders, academics, community organizations, and national legal non-profit organizations to discuss the future of juries and jury trials in the US. Using the “Just Horizons” model, the group will examine how future political, technological, and social changes may impact our jury system. Up to 40 individuals are expected to attend the day and a half long convening. The event is scheduled for February 22 and 23 in Washington, DC. Work completed on this project in the last reporting period include the development of a program agenda, the identification and recruiting of a diverse array of participants, and the creation of resources to support the project. The project’s CCR, submitted in the winter of 2023, was approved in January 2024.
