In September, the project team welcomed Maeve Blake and Joseph Llanes as the two resident corrections analysts for placement at Wyoming DOC (WYDOC) and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), respectively. As part of their onboarding, CSG Justice Center staff held kickoff meetings with both agencies to introduce their resident analyst. Resident analysts began onboarding activities at their respective state agencies, including completing required training and obtaining access to technology structures.??
In Wyoming, as is typical for many DOC employees, the resident analyst is mostly working remotely and traveling into the DOC central office on an ad hoc basis. As part of the mentorship component of the program, CSG Justice Center staff and the WY resident analyst conducted their first trip to Cheyenne for the project, meeting staff at the central office and traveling to tour a prison facility. Similarly, the RCA assigned to CDCR, alongside the CSG Justice Center and ASU team, kicked off the project with an introductory videoconference call. The California and Wyoming teams continued to meet weekly to manage each project and set incremental goals.??
CSG Justice Center staff continued work to hire a resident analyst for the Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections (LDPSC). In September, in collaboration with LDPSC leadership, the decision was made to repost the position to attempt to recruit additional candidates, as CSG Justice Center staff did not find a candidate who was a good fit for the position after conducting two rounds of initial interviews. The position will be posted again in October.?
Additionally, with resident analysts starting in CA and WY, CSG Justice Center staff were able to finalize those two project scopes of work (SOWs). BJA policy office staff read and reviewed SOWs for WV and LA as well. These will be officially completed after some final project details are determined (such as start dates).??
